Computer Hardware General Info
Computer hardware is a very broad general topic. This article will be hitting the main points of computer hardware knowledge, and teaching you the basics of what components are needed, and how these components work to build your very own computer.
There are seven basic hardware components to building your first computer.
The first is the computer case. The computer case is essential to your build as it houses and protects all the other components for your computer build. It also provides with wiring that links the computer to the power switch, so that the entire assembly can be told to turn itself on. Second, you will need a motherboard. This is essentially the brain of the computer. All other components that we will talk about in this article attach securely to the motherboard, which allows them to power on, and perform their functions. Now if the motherboard is the brain, the CPU, or central processing unit is the mind of the computer. All processes are worked out in the CPU, and without this key component, the computer wouldn’t know what to do with all of the hardware that it as installed. The CPU tells the motherboard what it needs to do with all the parts that are connected to it. The fourth item is the RAM, or memory of the computer. RAM stands for random access memory, and essentially is the “speed” of the computer. RAM stores random bits of information that you access constantly, so that your computer can access this information very quickly, thus increasing the performance of the computer.
The fifth item on our list is the hard drive. The hard drive is the storage unit for the computer build. It hold all information that you save to your computer including operating system, internet browsers, and any programs that you may want to install. Next, we have the graphics card. This is what allows you to visually see and work with your computer, because what good are all these parts, if we have no way to interact with the computer. Graphics cards are essential to the build for providing and output interface that you can interact with. The final, and seventh item on our list is the power supply unit. Without this, we wouldn’t be able to provide any power to our computer, and all the parts would be useless. Power supply units come in different shapes and sizes, depending on what kind of case you have, and how much wattage you need for the components you have within your build.
